When you say you’re going to do something this is what happens: you make a commitment to yourself, and then a portion of your energy is stored in reserve for when you complete that task.
All those “I’m going to do that one day”s are stored within you. Just because that commitment may not be made to anyone else, doesn’t mean you aren’t letting anyone down. It may be years before the garage gets cleaned out or you read the hundreds of books you’ve claimed you want to read, but the real question is, “what are you paying in rent each month to store all of these stagnant “maybe one day”s within you?
Time to clear it out! Why?
#1 Reason: Because you’re not a storage unit.
- Because you deserve all of your energy resources.
- Because as you grow, your interests grow and what you’re currently aligned with may not be able to get to you with all this baggage from the past.
- Because everything is experienced through your body, and some things can create dis-ease.
How to get rid of it? We’re going to take the holistic approach and create space in your mind, your body, your heart and your spirit. I’ll provide various options and you can take what you need and leave what you don’t.
First, let’s start with the MIND.
As our thoughts change everything else changes. We need to look at all the incomplete cycles of action that are holding your energy hostage. Make a list of ALL, and I mean all, the things, at one point or another, you said you were going to do. (This does not include little to-do list items from this week, like take out the trash, pick up dry-cleaning.) These are the ideas, projects, tasks, commitments that once interested you enough to say YES to.
Once we have our list, we make a plan. Sometimes things change, and it’s your right and prerogative to change your mind; sometimes you’re just over it. That thing that you were once so excited about suddenly you have no desire to ever think about it, let alone complete a task in it.
Things you have no interest to complete at this point in your life… CROSS IT OFF and say “done.” And really let it go. If any part of you wants to complete it won’t be removed energetically.
Then, all the things that are left, create a series of small steps to complete them over time. Tips:
- If you try to do everything completely all at once, it’s possible you won’t complete it and can potentially add a sense of failure to the storage unit.
- Check back on your list at the first of every month, set new goals, take new steps.
- Every 6 months make a new list, roll over anything from the previous list and do it all over again.
This energy that’s been sitting here taking up space has most likely been forgotten about, it’s stagnant. We want to get our bodies moving and shaking to stir things up, release what no longer serves us and create spaciousness within ourselves to welcome something new.
Hip and heart openers are great here. Try some of these:
There’s an hour-long movement meditation I love that supports this as well. 15 minutes shaking, 15 minutes dancing, 15 minutes observing the body in stillness (seated or standing) and lastly 15 minutes lying flat on your back, doing nothing.
Got your own exercise plan, great! As long as it’s something that’s consistent in your life then you’ll regularly be shaking things up, whether with running, dance, swim or your favorite activity.
Can’t seem to get this one going, then make sure you’re getting touch, a regular massage will do wonders for what you can release from your body.
Third, we have the HEART.
This is to clear out old stagnant emotional pockets. We spoke about heart openers, that will help. One of the greatest things you can do for yourself is use your BREATH to go in deeply, explore and dig out what’s been hiding.
Often we have chosen to not complete things in our life because we allow misbeliefs about ourselves or situations stop us. Then those feelings that are related to those beliefs can be stored and they’re sticky and icky and who wants to look at those. It’s not always fun to feel everything that comes up for ourselves, but it is a sure way to freedom.
We want FULL, DEEP, BELLY breaths in through the nose, out of the nose.
Another way to release these emotions is to write it out. Set some uninterrupted time aside for yourself, at least a half hour, light a candle, and write it all out, it may not make sense or be legible, it doesn’t matter, it’s about getting it out. Whatever you do, don’t reread it, burn it, shred it just get rid of it.
Lastly, the SPIRIT.
Here is where we get to refill.
Now that there’s space… there’s going to be so many things that have been trying to get your attention for so long that you can now welcome in. Fill yourself with gratitude, love, purpose.
You deserve to have all your energy at hand to make the most self-honoring choices and to be open to receiving the most aligned opportunities that life is waiting to give you. You are not a storage unit.
