Sometimes, you find yourself on the receiving end of callous behavior.
You know, those times when folks who had disappeared from your radar for months show up asking for a huge favor.
Or when someone sets up a meeting to discuss a collaboration only to end up talking about their needs most of the time and dashing to the door the minute it’s time to discuss how they can reciprocate.
Interestingly enough, these encounters always have the same magical effect on me.
They invariably lead to me asking myself these 2 questions:
- How quickly can I get these people out of my life?
- How do I improve my screening process to avoid having to deal with anything similar in the future?
Hey, no one like a self-absorbed taker!
If interacting with them leaves a bitter taste in your mouth or make you feel like you’ve been taken advantage of, they have to go.
On the other end of the spectrum, I always marvel at how willing I am to accommodate people who extent grace and appreciation in their interactions with me.
There’s nothing quite like a generous attitude, a thank you note and a kind gesture of acknowledgment to miraculously create space in a booked-out calendar.
That’s the power of gratitude! It opens doors.
Now, this seems quite obvious when dealing with humans but did you know that everything is your life responds to gratitude?
We live in an energetic universe and the quality of the energy you put out always comes back to you. If you find yourself struggling in some area of your life, it could be that in some ways you are acting like those ungrateful folks.
Now, I am not saying that you are an entitled, selfish monster, but maybe you are not always positivity incarnate. Like when you picked up the phone for 1/2 hour to rant about a client from hell, or when you got frustrated by this supplier who messed up your order.
These seemingly innocent outpourings of negativity can prove quite costly when you understand energy. You’re basically ordering more reasons to be frustrated.
When you find yourself in those situations remember: negativity closes doors, gratitude opens them.
It might not seem obvious but there’s always something to be grateful about. How can you express more gratitude?
You will be surprised by the miracles it can create.
