How often do you sit down for a scheduled time to talk about how awesome you are?
Do you celebrate your successes or check the box and hop to the next item on your to-do list?
Slow down and find time to brag on yo’self.
I love to read books on business, psychology, and women’s issues. One thing that is apparent from a general perspective and social psychology, men will brag on themselves and take credit, whereas women will share the love or discount their success by putting it down or making it seem easy or a fluke.
Stop that. You deserve the High Fives and Fist Bumps!
A couple of years ago I created a group called Brag & Biz after attending a networking group where the speaker was talking about this very phenomenon, of women dwelling on failures and being hard on ourselves. I looked around dumbfounded. I had at least two women who I regularly met with where we specifically talked about all the cool stuff we had done in the previous week(s).
When I realized I wasn’t the norm, I created my own Brag & Biz group. Three women who met every Monday morning over virtual conferencing, where we first shared our biggest brags of the week. Sometimes we discussed our challenges, but the primary purpose was to uplift and support each other. Once a month we met for 90-120 minutes, hitting other topics, but always starting with our biggest brags.
Find other women business owners that want to focus on the positive and create a group. This isn’t about sticking your head in the sand and not reviewing and learning from mistakes, but about celebrating what you’ve worked hard at.
High Five and Fist Bump yourself and find other women to do it with you.
