Because a well-rested, well-cared for woman is a beautiful woman, here are ten steps to your best beauty sleep ever:
Switch to a Silk Pillowcase
Besides the pure feeling of luxe, sleeping on silk can make your hairstyle last longer, reduce split ends, and protect and hydrate the skin. Unlike the traditional cotton pillowcases, which can cause damage to the hair and skin over time by way of tugging on the hair and scratching the skin.
Apply a Night Serum Instead of a Cream
Skin serums are increasing in popularity and for good reason. Serums leave out unnecessary thickeners and provide a very potent product packed with anti-aging properties. Applying a serum at night before bed allows it to work in all its purity (without the mixing in of any cosmetics) to give maximum benefits to the skin.
Use Moisturizing Socks and Gloves
We use our hands and feet to accomplish a lot, and this can lead to dryness and callouses. Give them some pampering by exfoliating and applying moisturizer to them before bed. Get even better results by wearing moisturizing gloves and socks once a week.
Think About Showering at Night
Showering at night includes many advantages. For one, it’s an excellent way to unwind from the day and aid your muscles in relaxation. Not to mention, you’ll have more time to luxuriate, verses in the morning when you’re more likely to rush through your shower so you can get to work. In addition to this, your bed collects fewer bacteria (better for the skin!), and it provides for less “get ready” time in the morning (and that means less stress). Don’t forget to moisturize afterward (Johnson’s baby oil gel is fantastic for overnight moisturizing right out of the shower).
Do a Nighttime Stretching Routine
Imagine you’ve just taken a hot shower (those tense muscles are feeling more relaxed), applied your body moisturizer of choice (you smell great), and now you’re stretching out with intentional breathing to your favorite chill-out tunes. Ah, yes. Pure relaxation. This is the perfect opportunity to release any tension you collected during your busy day. Google “yoga for better sleep” for many routine ideas that will have you sleeping deeper and waking up feeling well-rested.
Diffuse Essential Oils
Using essential oils in a diffuser can help promote a more peaceful sleep. Try Lavender, Vetiver, Chamomile, Bergamot, or Cedarwood. It is good to do your stretching while diffusing the oils so that you inhale them deeply for a greater effect.
Cut the Tech
Studies have shown that the light from most screens, also known as “blue light,” communicates to our bodies that it’s not the time to sleep. By giving our eyes a break from these lights for at least one hour before bed, we help our bodies to prepare for sleep.
But not just anything. Try warm milk (this contains an amino acid that induces sleep), tart cherry juice (it contains melatonin, a known natural sleep agent), or an herbal tea such as chamomile which promotes relaxation and is caffeine-free. There are some tea blends on the market geared toward better sleep that are worth checking out as well.
Release the Day
Much has taken place today and it’s easy to take these experiences, ideas, and thoughts to bed with you which can make it harder to rest. Try to release all these things before slipping between the sheets. Here’s how:
-Dump all of your thoughts into a journal. Getting thoughts out of your head and onto paper can help with letting them go.
-Write out tomorrow’s to-do list tonight. This allows you to release the mental burden to pick up the next day. I love this free printable Daily Planner Download by Day Designer.
-Meditate on truths and pray. By doing so, you recognize that there’s something bigger than your little, entrepreneurial world which can often seem all-encompassing. You’re not just flesh and blood working with things seen, but you’re a spiritual being, artfully crafted for a bigger overall purpose and having a deeper value that is not reliant on what you can produce.
Be consistent with Your Bedtime Routine
Whatever you do to get yourself relaxed and released for rest, be consistent. Having the same nightly routine makes the effort more effective. Any beauty routine that you adhere to will also have the greatest effect when regularly implemented instead of off and on.
With these tips, you’ll wake up beautiful, refreshed, and well-rested. Sweet dreams!
